One week old.

So, before I start posting any pics - let's recall what I was doing one year ago today(minus a day). I was celebrating my 8th wedding anniversary only days before my baby was to be born. And a year before that I was recuperating from losing a pregnancy. My how much has happened in the last 24 months! But this time around I am celebrating the one week birthday of my newest son Asher Edward Knorpp. Here are some images:
Photobucket
First off, I am not really experienced at taking those days old portraits and it shows - Asher was getting pretty bugged with me. Better get used to it kid - you got a photographer for a mom!

Photobucket
I did get a couple shots but I have a new found respect for Anne Geddes - these are hard!
Photobucket
Here's one of this boys huge feet. I don't know if it comes through in this image but at the hospital the nurses said he looked like a puppy with really huge paws - looks like he's gonna be tall. OR he's just gonna be a big handed, big footed weirdy.

And finally I gave up because he was getting so bugged and wrapped him up. He's so little and sweet. I still don't know what he looks like but it's starting to come out. By month three I think you can finally see what they look like. And as you know, I'm gonna be taking photos all along the way. Especially since he is my last! Now that is a whole other post that I'll get to...

Here are some outtakes:

p.s. Here is the link to pics of Peter at one week old to compare. Peter was soo much chubbier - Asher is long and lean. And they look a lot different.

5 days old.

Photobucket
Ok, here's a quick one. I plan on doing a real shoot on his one week birthday so we can all see what this little guy looks like. Even I'm not totally sure yet!

Love, Peace, & Harmony

Well, I really haven't been taking many pictures of Asher at all. It's hard when you've got your 11 month old screaming at your knee while you are holding your four day old. I imagine before the end of the week we'll have a proper photography shoot but for now this will have to do.
Peace, ya'll.

p.s. Can see how Asher has THE longest fingers ever?

p.p.s. Things are going REALLY well so far - cross you fingers! Even though Peter has decided to get a molar this week - we're all so happy to have our little Asher that we're dealing.

Asher Makes His Entrance

Well, the day finally came to welcome Asher into the world. Everything went about as smoothly as we had hoped for with the birth. The surgery went very well for Megan she had no hot spots and felt fine throughout the procedure. Asher did his part by staying put until the scheduled time of the C-Section which is more than Peter can say when it was his turn. Asher came out screaming and ready to eat so we are very happy. Following are a few pictures chronicling his first few hours on the "outside".

Megan wanted to document how she looked right before she finished.

Shortly after coming out, in the "incubator".

If you could see his toes you would see that they are basically finger length.

Right after trying to get him to look at the camera.

The Bath.

The sponge bath, tried to get the nurse to do the same for me but she refused.

Contentment.

Saved by the paper chain...

Whenever I have a big event coming that I am anxious about I employ a strategy I learned in my childhood - paper chains. We made one this time to count down to the baby and here it is this morning. It used to be draping across the room but has gotten too short. For some reason having a concrete object representing the days helps me relax about it.

I jinxed it...

So I guess Jamie was right and I spoke a little too soon...this is spring break around here:

And yes, this is the same tree in the last picture!

It really came.

Photobucket
Sometimes it seems like Spring will never come. But it really came and in some ways I can't believe it. After a cold winter there is nothing more inspiring or enlivening than Spring. What a gift.
p.s. These are the trees out front.
p.p.s. Only ten days till boy #4 is here!

We started seeds!

Photobucket
We started the seeds for our container herb garden today and we are all pretty excited about it. I'm using pics I put on backyard farming so excuse the little address in the corner of some of these. We're going to try and grow these in pots since we're moving in mid-June which is right in the middle of the season.
Photobucket
I told Elijah that he could sell the extras, and there will be lots and lots of extras, at corner of the Walmart parking lot.
Photobucket
We thought we'd sell them for $2/plant which is half the price of the ones at Walmart. And those plants have been sitting in hot trucks getting dehydrated...anyone want to put in an early order? We chose four good Italian cooking herbs - Basil, Oregano, Sage, & Rosemary.
Photobucket
Peter seems the most excited of all...

Snow Canyon, St. George

Well, we finally got to get out into the great outdoors and enjoy the camper we got from Chelsea and Kevin. Because it's still snowing off and on here we made the four hour drive down to St. George. And let me tell you, if you haven't been to St. George - you should add it to your to-do list - it's like nowhere else on earth and it's so beautiful. We chose a smaller canyon, Snow Canyon, over Zions - to avoid the crowds. This is the camper when it's all closed up. It's not big - probably about ten feet long. And here's what it looks like when you pop it all out. It's easy to set up and is a lot roomier than you'd think inside. It has a sink, a fridge, a stove, a king sized bed, a queen, two twins and a couple tables. Of course if you couldn't use all of these things simultaneously but it is good fun - way better than a tent.

Once we set it all up one of Mike's best friends from high school, Devin, came and joined us for hot dogs and cheetos. He brought along a little smores maker which the boys adored him for. They were bummed that there were no campfires at the site.
We finally got all settled down and ready for bed about 10 P.M. which is WAAAAY late for little Peter. He's used to going down before 7 P.M. at home. We were really nervous about the whole thing and by this time we were terrified. Peter was literally bouncing off the walls. When we put him in his pack'n'play he thought it was pure hilarity to throw his body against the walls of it. It was a bad bad sign. As you can see here he was more than a little energetic.

That night was long long long. Peter started waking and crying every hour and half which was really stressful since the campers on both sides of us weren't hard shelled so they could hear every little whimper. He finally stopped crying about 2 AM but then Elijah started to get scared and Andrew was cold. Then the dog needed to go out to the bathroom. Needless to say, all night long I kept telling myself that we were not going camping again for at least two more years. I thought getting the camper was a mistake. I was so bummed.

And then the morning came...The first thing I said to Mike when I realized it was light outside and birds were chirping - I grabbed him arm and said, "We made it!" We were so glad that it was over. And when we unzipped our window and looked outside to see this, it was amazing...pictures don't do any of this stuff justice! The first thing we did after breakfast was headed over to some petrified sand dunes. They are perfect for climbing - not too steep - just big red rocks. And there are these little volcanic rocks that were embedded in the sand dunes and didn't wear away as quickly. They are running up and down the whole thing - frozen in time like they were just tumbling down the sand yesterday. It was really pretty. And here I am - big and pregnant. I was wondering how it would be but honestly it was better than being at home. It's not like I get a break at home - I still have to climb our stairs fifty times a day, do dishes, change daipers, clean...so camping was actually a great break. Here's the older boys posing on the dune. It's as fun as it looks! And here's Mike and Peter - don't they both look sooo exhausted? But this, this made the night feel a million miles away. This was so breathtakingly beautiful - it was recharging. You wanted to sit down and never leave.Told you!And here's another view of the canyon we were in - we wanted to go explore these huge monuments but the hike was a little much for the youngins and the big pregnant lady.
Speaking of which - here I am - looking tired as well. Big belly heaving around me.
We ended the afternoon at a dinosaur museum. It cost us $18 for about 15 minutes of fun - literally. Oh well, it's all about making memories, right? The drive home wasn't bad - we discovered that the song, "99 bottles of beer on the wall", if finished, takes about 14 minutes total. And I heard one of the best knock knock jokes of all time from Andrew...

A: Knock Knock.
M: Who's there?
A: Mr. Potato-head with cheese and mustard.
M: Mr. Potato-head with cheese and mustard who?
A: Bum crack!
We all laughed pretty hard at that one. I guess the words bum crack are pretty dang funny - especially when you're wondering how he's ever gone pull this one together...

So, that was probably way more than you needed to hear but...that was our one-nighter in St. George, Utah.

THE END.
